Linux
Over the last few months I've been playing with Linux. It's my little challenge to myself ;) - it's now replaced Windows on my home PC entirely. Of course, one of the first things I wanted to try was to see what games I could get working... which it turns out has been most of them so far.
Virtual machines:
Click here for a video of Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP and Windows Vista running in VirtualBox on top of FC8... 3MB AVI.
Games:
So far, I have Steam (HL2 / CS:Source, etc), S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Worms3D, Worms, Call of Duty 4, Oblivion and Morrowind (kinda) working under WINE. I have Doom 3, and all versions of Quake 1-4 running in native mode... and they work better than they ever did on Windows
So... here is the first of my guides:
Call of Duty 4 on Ubuntu 8.04 – WINE 1.1.1 - PDF
Call of Duty 4 on Ubuntu 8.04 – WINE 1.1.1 - ODT
Note: Last updated 29/07/2008, current version 1.3
To go with the guide, the WINE 1.1.0 Patch: wine-1.1.0-3dmark.patch.zip
Note that as of WINE version 1.1.5, the above patch is NOT REQUIRED. Neither is it necessary to manually add the library overrides.
