I use Debian and Fedora Linux these days, so most of the information below relates to Debian Linux 5 and Fedora 11. I'm fairly sure a lot of the information will be useful under Ubuntu as well, although distros based on OpenSUSE, Gentoo, or Slackware are likely to work differently. Wherever possible, I have tried to cite sources.
